Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan Explore Regional Security Pact Amid Iran War

Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan Explore Regional Security Pact Amid Iran War

Foreign ministers from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan have held high-level discussions in Riyadh, signaling a possible shift toward deeper regional security cooperation as tensions rise across the Middle East.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of a broader Islamic summit, where leaders reviewed the ongoing conflict involving Iran and its growing impact on regional stability.

Push for a Regional Security Framework

Speaking after the talks, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the four nations are exploring ways to combine their strengths to address shared security challenges.

He emphasized the need for regional countries to take responsibility for their own stability rather than relying on external powers. According to him, closer coordination could help manage crises more effectively, especially at a time of escalating geopolitical tensions.

    Objective of the Proposed Pact

The proposed arrangement is not expected to mirror alliances like NATO. Instead, it would function as a flexible platform focused on:

    • Enhancing defence cooperation
    • Strengthening military industries
    • Sharing intelligence and strategic resources
    • Coordinating responses to regional threats

Each participating country brings unique strengths. Turkey has rapidly expanded its defence manufacturing sector, Pakistan maintains significant military capabilities including nuclear deterrence, Saudi Arabia is investing heavily in advanced technologies, and Egypt remains a key regional power with a large military force.

Focus on Iran Conflict and Regional Stability

A major part of the discussions centered on the ongoing conflict involving Iran, including attacks affecting Gulf countries. While Ankara has often criticized Israel’s role in escalating tensions, a joint understanding from the Riyadh meeting strongly condemned Iran’s strikes on regional infrastructure.

The ministers highlighted the urgency of coordinated action to prevent further instability, particularly as energy routes and national security concerns come under pressure.

    Growing Defence Cooperation

Recent developments indicate increasing defence ties among the countries. Turkey and Egypt, for instance, signed a military cooperation agreement earlier this year, aimed at boosting joint capabilities.

There have also been defence-related deals involving Turkish firms and Egyptian authorities, reflecting a broader trend of collaboration in arms production and military technology.

    What Comes Next

Although no formal agreement has been announced, diplomatic sources suggest that discussions are ongoing and could evolve into a structured partnership in the near future.

The next phase is likely to include:

    • Further high-level meetings to define the framework
    • Technical discussions on defence and intelligence sharing
    • Expansion of bilateral and multilateral agreements
    • Possible inclusion of additional regional partners

Officials indicate that the initiative is still in its early stages, but momentum is building as regional powers seek collective solutions to common threats.

    A Shift Toward Regional Self-Reliance

The talks reflect a broader shift in geopolitical thinking, where regional actors aim to reduce dependence on global powers and instead build their own cooperative security mechanisms.

As tensions linked to the Iran conflict continue, the outcome of these discussions could play a significant role in shaping the future security landscape of the Middle East and beyond.
