Trump Says Iran Talks Were “Very Positive”
Former US President Donald Trump said indirect talks between the United States and Iran held in Oman on Friday, February 6, were “very positive,” adding that further discussions are expected. The information was reported by AFP.
Iran also welcomed the atmosphere of the talks, which were held with Oman acting as a mediator, and expressed hope that negotiations with Washington would continue. The one-day discussions primarily focused on Iran’s nuclear programme, with both sides maintaining what was described as a constructive and calm environment to avoid escalation.
The talks took place in Muscat while a US naval fleet, including an aircraft carrier, remained deployed in Middle Eastern waters. Despite the discussions, US and Iranian delegations did not meet face to face and communicated indirectly through Omani intermediaries.
Shortly after the talks concluded, the United States announced new sanctions targeting shipping companies and vessels linked to Iran’s oil exports. It remains unclear whether these measures were directly connected to the negotiations.
