Bangladesh: RAB has arrested the parents of Faisal Karim Masud, the main accused in the attempted murder of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, according to an official statement.
The arrests were confirmed in a RAB press release issued shortly after 1:30am on Tuesday night.
The statement said members of RAB-10 conducted a special operation around 5:30am in the Hasnabad Housing area under South Keraniganj police station in Dhaka district, leading to the arrest of Faisal’s father Md Humayun Kabir, 70, and mother Mosa Hasi Begum, 60.
Osman Hadi was shot last Friday when attackers opened fire from a moving motorcycle at a rickshaw in the capital’s Purana Paltan area. He is the convener of Inqilab Mancha and a prospective candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency.
His condition remains critical, and he was taken to Singapore on Monday for advanced medical treatment.
Investigators have identified Faisal Karim Masud, a former leader of the banned student organisation Chhatra League, and his associate Alamgir Sheikh as the principal suspects in the attack. Investigation-related sources said both men fled to India following the incident.
RAB said preliminary findings show Faisal is the third of four children of Humayun and Hasi. He frequently visited the Agargaon residence of his sister, Mosa Jesmin Akter.
On the night of the incident, Faisal reportedly went to his sister’s flat carrying a bag. He later threw the bag into an open space within the building and asked his nephew, 18-year-old Jamil, to retrieve it.
The press release added that Faisal discarded one of his two mobile phones from the building’s rooftop and handed the other phone to his mother before meeting his parents.
Finding the location unsafe, Faisal left Agargaon, moved to Mirpur, and later went to Shahjadpur, where he stayed at the residence of his cousin Arif, the son of Humayun’s brother.
RAB said Humayun arranged a CNG-run auto-rickshaw to transport the bag and provided Faisal with cash. The couple later moved to their younger son Hasan Mahmud’s house in Keraniganj.
During this period, they purchased and used two SIM cards from Jatrabari to avoid detection, the statement said.

শরিফ ওসমান বিন হাদি হত্যাচেষ্টা মামলার মূল আসামি ফয়সল করিম মাসুদের মা–বাবাকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে র্যাব।
মঙ্গলবার দিবাগত রাত দেড়টার পর র্যাবের প্রকাশিত এক সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়।
বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে বলা হয়, মঙ্গলবার ভোর সাড়ে পাঁচটার দিকে র্যাব-১০ ঢাকা জেলার দক্ষিণ কেরানীগঞ্জ থানাধীন হাসনাবাদ হাউজিং এলাকায় বিশেষ অভিযান চালায়। এ সময় ফয়সলের বাবা মো. হুমায়ুন কবির (৭০) ও মা মোসা. হাসি বেগম (৬০)কে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়।
গত শুক্রবার রাজধানীর পুরানা পল্টন এলাকায় চলন্ত মোটরসাইকেল থেকে দুর্বৃত্তরা একটি রিকশাকে লক্ষ্য করে গুলি ছোড়ে। এতে রিকশায় থাকা ওসমান হাদি গুরুতর আহত হন। তিনি ইনকিলাব মঞ্চের আহ্বায়ক এবং ঢাকা-৮ আসনের সম্ভাব্য প্রার্থী।
বর্তমানে ওসমান হাদির অবস্থা আশঙ্কাজনক। উন্নত চিকিৎসার জন্য তাঁকে গত সোমবার সিঙ্গাপুরে নেওয়া হয়।
তদন্ত-সংশ্লিষ্ট সূত্র জানায়, এই হামলার সঙ্গে জড়িত প্রধান সন্দেহভাজন নিষিদ্ধ সংগঠন ছাত্রলীগের সাবেক নেতা ফয়সল করিম মাসুদ এবং তাঁর সহযোগী আলমগীর শেখ। ঘটনার পর তাঁরা ভারতে পালিয়ে গেছেন বলে জানা গেছে।
র্যাব জানায়, প্রাথমিক অনুসন্ধানে দেখা গেছে, হুমায়ুন ও হাসি দম্পতির চার সন্তানের মধ্যে ফয়সল তৃতীয়। তিনি রাজধানীর আগারগাঁও এলাকায় তাঁর বোন মোসা. জেসমিন আক্তারের বাসায় নিয়মিত যাতায়াত করতেন।
ঘটনার রাতে ফয়সল একটি ব্যাগ নিয়ে বোনের বাসায় ওঠেন। পরে তিনি বাসার ভেতরের ফাঁকা জায়গায় ব্যাগটি ফেলে দেন এবং তাঁর ভাগনে জামিল (১৮)-কে দিয়ে সেটি উদ্ধার করান।
র্যাবের ভাষ্য অনুযায়ী, ফয়সল তাঁর ব্যবহৃত দুটি মুঠোফোনের একটি বাসার ছাদ থেকে ফেলে দেন এবং অন্যটি তাঁর মায়ের হাতে তুলে দেন। এরপর তিনি সেখানে মা–বাবার সঙ্গে দেখা করেন।
ওই স্থানে অবস্থান নিরাপদ মনে না হওয়ায় ফয়সল আগারগাঁও ছেড়ে প্রথমে মিরপুর এবং পরে শাহজাদপুরে যান। সেখানে তিনি তাঁর চাচাতো ভাই আরিফের বাসায় অবস্থান করেন।
র্যাব জানায়, ফয়সলের ব্যাগ বহনের জন্য তাঁর বাবা হুমায়ুন একটি সিএনজিচালিত অটোরিকশার ব্যবস্থা করেন এবং কিছু নগদ অর্থ দেন। পরে হুমায়ুন ও হাসি দম্পতি তাঁদের ছোট ছেলে হাসান মাহমুদের কেরানীগঞ্জের বাসায় চলে যান।
এ সময় তাঁরা জুরাইন এলাকা থেকে দুটি নতুন সিম কার্ড কিনে ব্যবহার করেন বলে বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে উল্লেখ করা হয়।
