Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has revealed that recent bombings by the United States and Israel caused significant damage to several nuclear facilities.
Speaking on state television Thursday night, he described the destruction as “excessive and serious,” and confirmed that the Atomic Energy Organisation is assessing the full extent of the damage.
This statement contrasts sharply with remarks made just hours earlier by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He downplayed the strikes, claiming they did not interrupt the country’s nuclear program. Khamenei also responded to President Donald Trump’s declaration that three nuclear sites had been “totally obliterated,” dismissing it as an exaggeration.
In his first public comments since the war with Israel began on June 13, Khamenei insisted the attacks failed to deliver any major results and declared a symbolic victory over both the United States and Israel.
Meanwhile, Araghchi confirmed there are no plans to resume stalled nuclear talks. Iran withdrew from the sixth round of negotiations following Israel’s recent military actions.
