    Bangladesh: India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Tuesday morning at 10:00am, diplomatic sources confirmed.

    According to the sources, the summons was issued in response to security concerns surrounding Bangladeshi diplomatic missions in various parts of India, including New Delhi and Kolkata, amid an evolving situation.

    Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam formally called in the Indian High Commissioner. During the meeting, Bangladesh requested India to strengthen security arrangements for all Bangladeshi missions across Indian cities to ensure the safety of diplomatic personnel and premises.

    This marks the second time in the past ten days that Pranay Verma has been summoned to the foreign ministry. Since the formation of the interim government, Indian diplomatic representatives have been called in at least six times over different issues.

    Earlier, on December 14, Verma was summoned and informed of Bangladesh’s concerns regarding the perpetrators involved in the attack on Inqilab Mancha convener Shahid Sharif Osman Hadi. 

    Bangladesh sought India’s cooperation to prevent the suspects from fleeing to India and requested their immediate arrest and extradition should they enter Indian territory. During the same meeting, Dhaka also conveyed its concerns over what it described as continued provocative statements by ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from her place of stay in New Delhi.

    In a reciprocal move, Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India, M Riaz Hamidullah, was summoned by India’s Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi on December 17.

    The back-and-forth summoning of envoys in both capitals has added fresh strain to bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries. 

    Tensions escalated further after protests were held outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Saturday night.

    Meanwhile, Hindu nationalist group Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for demonstrations on Tuesday outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Mumbai. Against this backdrop, analysts believe Dhaka–New Delhi relations are facing renewed diplomatic challenges.

    বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত ভারতের হাইকমিশনার প্রণয় ভার্মাকে আজ মঙ্গলবার সকাল ১০টায় ঢাকার পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ে তলব করা হয়েছে বলে কূটনৈতিক সূত্র নিশ্চিত করেছে।
     
    সূত্র জানায়, নয়াদিল্লি ও কলকাতাসহ ভারতের বিভিন্ন শহরে অবস্থিত বাংলাদেশের কূটনৈতিক মিশনগুলোর নিরাপত্তা নিয়ে উদ্ভূত উদ্বেগের প্রেক্ষাপটে এই তলব করা হয়।
     
    বাংলাদেশের পররাষ্ট্রসচিব আসাদ আলম সিয়াম আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ভারতের হাইকমিশনারকে তলব করেন। বৈঠকে ভারতের বিভিন্ন শহরে অবস্থিত বাংলাদেশি মিশনগুলোর নিরাপত্তা আরও জোরদার করার জন্য ভারত সরকারের প্রতি অনুরোধ জানানো হয়, যাতে কূটনৈতিক কর্মকর্তা ও স্থাপনাগুলোর নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করা যায়।
     
    গত ১০ দিনের মধ্যে এটি দ্বিতীয়বারের মতো প্রণয় ভার্মাকে পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ে তলব করা হলো। অন্তর্বর্তী সরকার গঠনের পর বিভিন্ন ইস্যুতে এখন পর্যন্ত অন্তত ছয়বার ভারতীয় কূটনৈতিক প্রতিনিধিদের তলব করা হয়েছে।
     
    এর আগে ১৪ ডিসেম্বর প্রণয় ভার্মাকে তলব করে ইনকিলাব মঞ্চের আহ্বায়ক শহীদ শরিফ ওসমান হাদির ওপর হামলার ঘটনায় জড়িতদের বিষয়ে বাংলাদেশের উদ্বেগ জানানো হয়। ওই বৈঠকে অভিযুক্তরা যেন ভারতে পালিয়ে যেতে না পারে, সে বিষয়ে ভারতের সহযোগিতা চাওয়া হয়। 
     
    একই সঙ্গে তারা যদি ভারতীয় ভূখণ্ডে প্রবেশ করে, তবে দ্রুত গ্রেপ্তার ও বাংলাদেশে প্রত্যর্পণের অনুরোধ জানানো হয়। পাশাপাশি, নয়াদিল্লিতে অবস্থানরত ক্ষমতাচ্যুত প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার উসকানিমূলক বক্তব্য নিয়েও বাংলাদেশের উদ্বেগ ভারতের হাইকমিশনারকে অবহিত করা হয়।
    এর পাল্টা পদক্ষেপ হিসেবে ১৭ ডিসেম্বর নয়াদিল্লিতে নিযুক্ত বাংলাদেশের হাইকমিশনার এম রিয়াজ হামিদুল্লাহকে ভারতের পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ে তলব করা হয়।
     
    ঢাকা ও নয়াদিল্লিতে পরস্পরের হাইকমিশনারদের পাল্টাপাল্টি তলবের ঘটনায় দুই দেশের দ্বিপক্ষীয় সম্পর্কে নতুন করে উত্তেজনা তৈরি হয়েছে বলে মনে করছেন বিশ্লেষকেরা।
     
    এদিকে গত শনিবার রাতে নয়াদিল্লিতে বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশনের সামনে বিক্ষোভ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়, যা পরিস্থিতিকে আরও জটিল করে তুলেছে। একই সঙ্গে আজ মঙ্গলবার নয়াদিল্লিতে বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশন এবং মুম্বাইয়ে বাংলাদেশ উপ-হাইকমিশনের সামনে বিক্ষোভের ডাক দিয়েছে হিন্দুত্ববাদী সংগঠন বিশ্ব হিন্দু পরিষদ (ভিএইচপি)। এই প্রেক্ষাপটে ঢাকা–দিল্লি সম্পর্ক নতুন এক কূটনৈতিক চ্যালেঞ্জের মুখে পড়েছে বলে মত বিশ্লেষকদের।
