The National Pay Commission is moving toward a significant financial boost to make the Bengali New Year celebrations more rewarding for government employees.
A final recommendation to substantially raise the Baisakhi (Bengali New Year) allowance under the Ninth Pay Scale is now at an advanced stage.
According to officials, the commission will submit its final proposal to the Chief Adviser on Wednesday, January 21.
Under the proposed changes, government officers and employees covered by the Ninth Pay Scale would receive a Baisakhi allowance equivalent to 50 percent of their basic salary. At present, the allowance stands at 20 percent of basic pay.
A senior source within the Pay Commission confirmed on Monday, January 19, that the increase has been formally proposed. A commission member also told reporters that the enhanced Baisakhi allowance will be included in the commission’s recommendations.
However, the commission clarified that bonuses paid on the occasion of Eid will remain unchanged, with no revisions planned under the new proposal.
