Four Bangladeshi Fishermen Abducted by Arakan Army

Four Bangladeshi fishermen were reportedly abducted by the Arakan Army while fishing in the Naf River near Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.

The incident occurred around 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the Golarchor area near Shahpari Island in Teknaf.

Lieutenant HM Sartaj Bin Soharab, commander of the Shahpari Island Coast Guard station, confirmed the incident.

The abducted fishermen have been identified as Mohammad Hasan (30), a boatman from South Shahpari Island in Teknaf, along with Abdur Rakim (20), Mohammad Jaber (26), and Mohammad Hasan (16).

According to Lieutenant Soharab, Mohammad Hasan had taken the fishermen out for fishing on a trawler in the Naf River that morning.

At one point, armed individuals in a speedboat, coming from Myanmar, surrounded their trawler and forcibly took it and the fishermen into Myanmar's territory.

Bashir Ahmed, the head of the South Waterway Wharf of Shahpari Island, confirmed that the four fishermen had been fishing in the Naf River when they were abducted by the Arakan Army along with their boat. The local administration has been informed of the situation.

In response, Teknaf's Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Ehsan Uddin stated that authorities are working to bring the fishermen back and are actively addressing the situation.
