
Former Member of Parliament for Manikganj-2 constituency, and noted folk singer Momtaz Begum, was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) from Dhanmondi.
She was apprehended from a house behind the Star Kabab in Dhanmondi at around 11:45 PM on Monday night (May 12).
The arrest was confirmed by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Momtaz Begum had been in hiding at a house behind Star Kabab in Dhanmondi, he said, adding Momtaz Begum is facing multiple cases, including one involving murder charges.
In the 12th National Parliamentary Election, she contested as the Awami League-nominated candidate for Manikganj-2 (Singair-Harirampur) but lost to Dewan Zahid Ahmed Tulu, a rebel candidate from her own party.
Although she was not elected, Momtaz Begum had been serving as the president of the Singair Upazila unit of the Awami League for an extended period.
