Fire at Dhaka Airport; Incoming Planes Diverted to Ctg and Kolkata

Dhaka: A major fire erupted in the cargo section of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon, forcing authorities to temporarily suspend flight operations. The blaze, which began around 2:30 pm at Gate No. 8 in the airport’s Cargo Village, has prompted a large-scale emergency response involving 36 firefighting units, including support from the Bangladesh Air Force and Civil Aviation Authority.
Thick smoke has been seen rising from the import cargo complex, where incoming goods are stored. For safety reasons, several flights bound for Dhaka have been diverted to alternative airports. Among them, flights from Bangkok and Sharjah were rerouted to Chattogram, while an IndiGo flight from Delhi landed in Kolkata. Outbound flights, including Biman Bangladesh and IndiGo services, are currently on the taxiway awaiting clearance.
Authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported. Firefighters continue to work to bring the situation under control, and flights are expected to resume once the fire is fully contained and safety checks are completed.
