At Least 10 Dead, Including Suspect, in Shooting at Tumbler Ridge High School, British Columbia
Feb 11, 2026: At least 10 people, including the suspected shooter, have died in connection with a violent shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia, authorities confirmed. It is not immediately known whether the victims at the school were students or staff.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said officers responded to reports of an active shooter at the school around 1:20 p.m. local time Tuesday.
Upon arriving, officers discovered six people dead from gunshot wounds and a person believed to be the suspect, who had apparently died from a self-inflicted injury.
Two victims were airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries, while a third victim died during transport. Police later identified a secondary location—a nearby residence—where two additional victims were found dead.
Approximately 25 others with non-life-threatening injuries were taken to a local medical center for assessment. Police confirmed that there are no additional suspects and no ongoing threat to the public.
Police Response and Community Support
RCMP Superintendent Ken Floyd, North District Commander, described the incident as a “rapidly evolving and dynamic situation.”
He praised the swift cooperation of school staff, first responders, and the local community for helping ensure the safety of students and staff. “Our thoughts are with the families, loved ones, and all those impacted by this tragic incident,” he said.
All remaining students and staff were safely evacuated, and additional police resources from neighboring detachments, along with the North District Emergency Response Team, were deployed to the area to assist with the investigation.
Peace River South School District confirmed a lockdown and “secure and hold” status for Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and Tumbler Ridge Elementary School, urging the public to remain patient as authorities continue their work.
Officials Express Condolences
Larry Neufeld, member of the Legislative Assembly representing Peace River South, visited the scene and emphasized public safety.
“I urge everyone in the area to follow RCMP instructions, remain sheltered, and rely only on official updates,” Neufeld said.
He added that provincial resources are being made available to support local law enforcement and emergency responders.
The shootings have left the Tumbler Ridge community reeling as authorities continue to investigate the motive and the connection between the school and the nearby home.
Mental health support teams are being mobilized to assist those affected by the tragedy.
