The Election Commission (EC) has announced a ban on the use of microphones and loudspeakers for election campaigning after 8:00 pm.
The commission warned that any use of loudspeakers beyond the permitted time will be considered a clear violation of the electoral code of conduct.
According to the Political Parties and Candidates’ Code of Conduct 2025, the EC has set specific rules regarding both the timing and sound levels of loudspeakers used during election campaigns. Registered political parties, their nominated candidates, independent candidates, or anyone campaigning on their behalf are allowed to use microphones or sound-amplifying devices only between 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm in any electoral area.
The guidelines also state that a maximum of three loudspeakers may be used at each public rally. However, this restriction does not apply to microphones or loudspeakers used for general campaign activities. Additionally, the sound level must not exceed 60 decibels, and all loudspeaker use must remain within the designated time frame.
