The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police has launched a nationwide crackdown on online gambling and betting activities.
According to a press release issued by the CID on Monday evening, more than 1,000 mobile banking agents involved in facilitating these online crimes have already been identified. Efforts are underway to bring those involved under the purview of the law.
Legal actions are being initiated against the identified agents. A list of those involved has been sent to the Bangladesh Bank with the intention of cancelling their licenses and imposing financial penalties.
The CID has affirmed that this drive will continue as part of a broader campaign to combat cybercrime and protect citizens from illegal online activities.
Under the Cyber Security Act 2025, online gambling is now considered a punishable cybercrime in Bangladesh.
