Bangladesh Pays Tribute to Language Martyrs on Int'l Mother Language Day

Bangladesh observed Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day with deep respect and reverence for the martyrs of the historic Language Movement.

Tributes were paid at various locations across the country, with significant ceremonies held at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka and in Satkhira.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus led the tributes by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar shortly after midnight.

The President and Chief Adviser stood in solemn silence, honoring the sacrifices made by the Language Heroes.

They were joined by Advisers to the interim government, the Chief Justice, chiefs of the three services, IGP, freedom fighters, diplomats, and other high-ranking civil and military officials, all of whom marked the occasion with deep respect for the Language Movement's legacy.

People from all walks of life observed the day with deep respect. Schools, colleges, and universities across the country held memorial services, with students placing flowers at Shaheed Minars and engaging in discussions about the importance of preserving linguistic and cultural heritage. Educational institutions also organized rallies, debates, and cultural programs, fostering awareness among the younger generation about the significance of the Language Movement.

Political, social, and cultural organizations joined the observances, with various groups paying their respects at Shaheed Minars across the country.

In addition to students and teachers, citizens from all strata of society participated in the tributes, ensuring the day was marked with unity and solemnity.

Authorities ensured public safety with police, RAB, and intelligence agencies maintaining order during the observances.
