US Urges Russia to Stay Clear of Iran as Operation “Epic Fury” Continues
The United States has cautioned Russia against involving itself in the ongoing conflict with Iran, as American forces press forward with Operation Epic Fury.
US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth made the statement on Tuesday following a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Hegseth described the conversation as constructive, noting that Trump’s communications with global leaders provide strategic opportunities in complex international situations. While Hegseth did not participate in the call, he said those on the line described it as a strong discussion, emphasizing that Russia should not interfere in the current US-Iran conflict. The call also reportedly touched on prospects for easing tensions in the Russia–Ukraine war.
US Asserts Upper Hand in Iran Campaign
At a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth stated that the US is making significant progress in Iran. He said American forces are conducting intensive air operations, with more aircraft, fighters, and bombers deployed than in previous days. Intelligence collection has also become increasingly precise, he added.
“The past 24 hours have seen Iran launch fewer missiles than anticipated,” Hegseth said, suggesting that Tehran’s military capabilities are being systematically weakened.
Operation “Epic Fury” Different from Past Conflicts
Hegseth rejected comparisons to the 2003 Iraq invasion, stressing that the US military is not engaging in prolonged nation-building. “This is not 2003,” he said, emphasizing that Operation Epic Fury is a focused campaign with clear objectives under presidential guidance.
“This is a decisive mission, with total air dominance and an unbreakable commitment to achieving the president’s goals,” he added.
US Soldier Killed in Saudi Strike
The Pentagon confirmed the death of Army Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington, 26, from Glendale, Kentucky, who was injured during a strike at Prince Sultan Air Base and later died from his wounds.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine paid tribute during a dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base, recalling Pennington’s childhood dream of serving his country, which his family had shared through a drawing he made as a kindergartener. Pennington was the seventh US service member to die while supporting the operation.
Trump Highlights Early Success
President Trump expressed confidence in the campaign, noting that results have surpassed expectations despite its early stage. The operation, which began on February 28, reportedly led to the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, significantly escalating regional tensions.
US officials have reiterated that military operations will continue on Washington’s terms, maintaining a strategy aimed at achieving rapid and decisive results.
