The United States has paused certain weapons deliveries to Ukraine, the White House confirmed Tuesday, amid escalating conflict with Russia.
The move follows a Department of Defense review prioritizing US national interests, according to spokesperson Anna Kelly.
Since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, Washington has provided Ukraine with tens of billions in military aid. However, concerns have emerged, especially among Trump-era officials, about the strain on US weapons reserves.
While the specific halted shipments weren't detailed, sources suggest air defense systems and precision-guided munitions are among the items affected. Despite the pause, Undersecretary of Defense Elbridge Colby emphasized that the Pentagon continues offering the President strong options for supporting Ukraine militarily. Ukrainian authorities have yet to respond to the announcement.
