US and European Leaders Meet in Paris to Discuss on Ukraine

Top American and European officials are meeting in Paris today (April 17, 2025) to talk about how to end the war in Ukraine.
Representing the US are Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Senator Marco Rubio. They’ll be joined by UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy and other European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and German officials.
This is the most high-level discussion between the US and Europe about the Ukraine conflict since February. Recently, the US has not been working closely with its European allies on this issue, so today's talks are seen as an important step forward.
The main goal of the meeting is to find ways to stop the fighting in Ukraine. Witkoff is expected to share details from his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. European diplomats plan to ask the US to push harder for Russia to agree to a ceasefire without any conditions.
