President Donald Trump has warned of a potential 30% to 35% tariff on Japanese goods if a trade deal isn't finalized before next week's deadline.
This threat marks a significant escalation from the 24% tariff Japan faced during Trump's "Liberation Day" announcement on April 2, when he imposed widespread import duties globally.
Following that announcement, tariffs for most countries were temporarily reduced to 10% for 90 days to allow time for negotiations. However, with the grace period ending on July 9, Trump has indicated he has no plans to extend it.
