Israeli Forces Strike Critical Iranian Petrochemical Hub Following Trump’s "Infrastructure" Ultimatum

Israeli Forces Strike Critical Iranian Petrochemical Hub Following Trump’s "Infrastructure" Ultimatum

TEHRAN/JERUSALEM – Tensions in the Middle East reached a fever pitch on Monday as Israel launched a massive air assault on Iran’s primary petrochemical infrastructure.

The strike follows a series of blunt warnings from U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened to systematically dismantle Iran’s civilian infrastructure if the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is not lifted immediately.

    Escalation at Asaluyeh

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed they targeted the Asaluyeh petrochemical complex, a site essential to Iran’s economy. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the operation was intended to deliver a "severe economic blow" to the Iranian regime.

According to Katz, the facility hit on Monday, combined with a previous strike last week, has effectively neutralized 85% of Iran's petrochemical export capacity. "The petrochemical industry is a major engine in financing the activities of the Revolutionary Guards," Katz said, asserting that the sites are now non-functional.

The semi-official Tasnim news agency in Iran confirmed that several production units were damaged, though no immediate casualties were reported from the site.

    Trump’s "Power Plant Day" Threat

The Israeli strike occurred shortly after President Trump issued a profanity-laced ultimatum on social media. Trump warned that if the Strait of Hormuz—a vital global energy artery—is not reopened by Tuesday night, the U.S. would broaden its targets to include bridges and power grids.

"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran," the President posted. "There will be nothing like it!!!"

While the White House confirmed that "Operation Epic Fury" continues, officials noted that Trump has not yet signed off on any specific ceasefire framework, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.

    Deadly Retaliation and Regional Casualties

The conflict continues to take a heavy toll on civilians across borders:

    • Haifa, Israel: An Iranian missile strike on a residential building killed four people. Rescue teams reportedly had to tunnel through neighboring structures to reach victims trapped under live ordnance that failed to explode on impact.

    • Lebanon: Israeli air raids killed at least nine people on Monday morning, with strikes hitting the Dahieh district in Beirut and various southern towns.

    • Assassination: Iran confirmed that Majid Khademi, the intelligence chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli operation on Monday.

    Diplomacy at a Deadlock

Amidst the violence, international mediators from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey are reportedly circulating a 45-day ceasefire proposal. However, the path to peace remains obstructed:

    • Iran’s Stance: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that Tehran has drafted its own response to mediators but dismissed previous U.S. proposals as "excessive." Iran continues to deny any direct negotiations with Washington, calling Trump’s threats "incompatible" with diplomacy.

    • Internal Crackdown: Inside Iran, the regime is reportedly tightening control through internet blackouts and checkpoints. State media confirmed the execution of Ali Fahim, a protester linked to anti-government demonstrations in January, signaling a hardening domestic policy as the war intensifies.

Oil prices saw significant volatility on Monday, spiking to $110 a barrel following Trump’s threats before slightly receding on rumors of the potential 45-day truce.

As the Tuesday deadline approaches, the region remains on a knife-edge, waiting to see if diplomacy can overtake the momentum of "Power Plant Day."
