Houthis Launch Second Missile Attack on Israel, Threaten Continued Strikes Regional Conflict Widens as Yemen Enters Active Combat Phase

Houthis Launch Second Missile Attack on Israel, Threaten Continued Strikes Regional Conflict Widens as Yemen Enters Active Combat Phase

Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement has carried out a second missile and drone assault targeting southern Israel, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing Middle East conflict.

The group confirmed that the latest barrage struck what it described as “key military positions,” and warned that further attacks would continue in the coming days.

The strikes reportedly coincided with broader military actions by Iran and allied groups in the region, suggesting a coordinated expansion of hostilities. Israeli defence systems were activated, with officials stating that incoming threats were intercepted.

    Who Are the Houthis?

The Houthis, formally known as Ansar Allah, are a powerful armed group controlling large parts of northwestern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa.

Backed by Iran, they have been engaged in a prolonged civil war against Yemen’s internationally recognised government since 2015.

Over the years, the group has developed missile and drone capabilities, enabling it to target regional adversaries, including Saudi Arabia and now Israel.

Yemen Government Accuses Iran of Escalation

Yemen’s internationally recognised government has strongly condemned the attacks, accusing Iran of attempting to drag the country deeper into a wider regional war through its support for the Houthis.

Officials warned that such actions risk further destabilising Yemen, which is already suffering from one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

Global Trade at Risk: Red Sea Shipping Threat

Analysts caution that the Houthis could pose a serious threat beyond direct military strikes. If the group resumes targeting vessels passing through the Bab al-Mandab Strait—a critical maritime route linking the Red Sea to global trade lanes—it could severely disrupt international shipping.

Such a move would compound existing economic pressures, especially as tensions around the Strait of Hormuz have already reduced global oil and gas flows.

Any disruption in these key waterways could trigger further spikes in energy prices and supply chain instability worldwide.

Journalists Killed in Lebanon Strike Draw Global Condemnation

In a separate development, three journalists were killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon. Their employers confirmed the deaths, while Israel’s military alleged that one of the killed individuals had ties to Hezbollah.

The Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the incident, stressing that media personnel must never be treated as legitimate targets, regardless of their affiliations.

Iran Reports Strike on Medical Facility

Iranian authorities have accused the United States and Israel of striking a medical clinic in the city of Minab. Officials said the attack caused damage to storage areas but did not result in casualties.

The incident comes amid broader allegations from Tehran that civilian infrastructure, including educational and healthcare facilities, has been increasingly targeted during the conflict.

    Wider Conflict Signals Prolonged Instability

The latest Houthi attacks underline the growing complexity of the conflict, with multiple regional actors now directly or indirectly involved.

From missile exchanges to threats against critical infrastructure and shipping routes, the situation continues to evolve into a broader geopolitical crisis with global economic implications.

Observers warn that without urgent diplomatic intervention, the conflict risks entering a prolonged and more destructive phase, affecting not only the Middle East but also international security and trade.
