The Canadian government is preparing to implement one of the most significant changes in the history of its citizenship laws.
Known as Bill C-3, the new legislation is expected to benefit thousands of Canadian families with children born abroad and resolve long-standing citizenship complications.
Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab emphasized the importance of this reform, stating that Bill C-3 will address long-standing issues in Canada’s citizenship system and ensure fairness for families with children born or adopted outside the country.
She added that the updated law will grant citizenship to individuals who were excluded under previous rules and establish clearer guidelines for the future—guidelines designed to reflect the realities of modern family life.
