DHAKA — Interrogations into the mysterious death of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Sauri (28) have revealed new details, with a detained associate claiming that a sudden chase forced Tahsif to jump into the Turag River.
Tahsif’s floating body was recovered by river police on Wednesday afternoon near Rajbari Ghat in Uttarkhan, Dhaka. Following up on crucial leads, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) retrieved an unnumbered motorcycle late Thursday night from a slum area near the recovery site. The vehicle is suspected to belong to the deceased officer.
Companion Claims Chase by Supposed Law Enforcers
PBI officers detained Tahsif’s associate, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip, from a residence in Mohammadpur on Thursday night. Dwip, who was identified from CCTV footage as the last person seen with Tahsif before his disappearance, provided details during interrogation regarding the final moments before the incident.
According to PBI officials, Dwip stated during questioning: "We were talking at the location when a group of men suddenly chased us. Tahsif leaped into the river to escape, and I fled the scene." Dwip further alleged that the pursuers claimed to be law enforcement personnel.
Investigators noted that Rajbari Ghat is widely known as a hotspot for illicit drug activities, raising suspicions that the duo may have been chased by local drug traffickers or an unidentified group, leading to Tahsif drowning in the river. PBI is currently cross-examining Dwip's statements against forensic evidence.

Mystery Surrounding Disappearance
Tahsif originally left his home in Uttara Sector 18 on Tuesday evening. CCTV footage retrieved from his apartment garage showed him meeting Dwip, shaking hands, and driving off on separate motorcycles.
Later that night, at around 1:35 AM, Tahsif sent a voice message to his mother stating he was returning home. When he failed to arrive, his family attempted to reach his phone but received no response.
The motorcycle recovered by police—located roughly 50 yards from where the body was found—lacks a rear license plate, matching the specification of the bike Tahsif was driving on the night he went missing.
Family Rejects Suicide Claims
Following an autopsy at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, Tahsif’s body was handed over to his family and laid to rest in Uttara.
Rejecting any possibility of suicide, Tahsif’s father, KM Enayetul Karim, expressed deep suspicion over the circumstances surrounding his son's death. He called upon authorities to conduct an impartial investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
PBI Metro North officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing alongside naval police to verify all statements and ascertain the precise sequence of events.
