Parents often become concerned about their child's immunity after repeated illnesses. However, Dr Silky Jain, Chief, Pediatric Haemato-Oncology & BMT, and Founder-CEO of Lavender Lane, said supporting a child's immune health is largely connected to simple routines followed at home rather than relying only on medicines.

According to the doctor, parents can focus on several everyday habits to help children maintain a healthier lifestyle.

Priorities Good Sleep

Children aged six to 12 generally need around nine to 12 hours of sleep each night. Adequate rest supports the body's recovery and normal immune functions. Parents should also avoid allowing children to use screens immediately before bedtime.

Make Meals More Colourful

A varied diet containing fruits and vegetables can provide children with important nutrients. Rather than following complicated food plans, parents can introduce different types and colours of produce into regular meals.

Teach Proper Handwashing

Good hygiene is another important habit. Children should be encouraged to wash their hands properly before eating and after playing outdoors, helping reduce exposure to germs that can cause infections.

Keep Children Active

Regular physical activity and outdoor play can contribute to overall health. Parents can encourage children to spend time moving and playing instead of remaining seated for long periods.

Pay Attention to Stress

Emotional wellbeing can also affect a child's health. School pressure, examinations and tension at home may contribute to prolonged stress. Dr Jain recommends simple measures such as talking calmly with children, giving them time for unstructured play and making sure they feel heard.

The doctor emphasized that these small, consistent habits can become part of a child's daily routine and support overall wellbeing.
